Each month, we spotlight one of our spectacular employees here at Go Local Interactive and give you the scoop on the people behind the scenes who are working Go Local magic every day! This month, we are focusing on our fun-loving and creative Social Media Specialist who we can always count on for fresh ideas and loads of contagious laughter.
School/Degree: I went to Kansas State University and got a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Minor in Advertising and Mass Communications.
Title: Product Marketing Specialist – Social Media
How did you find your way to Go Local? I started as an intern in the summer of 2013 after a friend told me to check them out. I loved the atmosphere and decided to take it on. After finishing my degree I came on full time and the rest is history.
What do you love most about your job here? I enjoy coming into work every day because of my talented coworkers and the collaborative team environment I am surrounded by. I have learned so much about digital marketing since I have been here and there are always a lot of educational opportunities. I also love getting to experience a project from the beginning to the end instead of just working on one small part of it.
When you’re not at work, what do you do for fun? I like shopping a lot and exploring Kansas City – every weekend I like to explore something new. I also like to travel, spend time with my family, friends, and my boyfriend Derek.
What’s your favorite KC restaurant? I have so many and there are several that I haven’t even gotten to try yet. But I am going to go with Gram and Dunn, Q-39, Blue Koi, Beer Kitchen and The Tavern.. there are so many and I am sure I am forgetting several others.
What is your dream vacation? I would love to take a month and travel across Europe. I have already been there twice but there are so many places that I still want to see!
What is your favorite Go Local memory? I love all the memories I have from having big group lunches (like when we would do weekly Mi Ranchito trips). Last year’s Christmas party was also so much fun because we got to hear a lot of embarrassing stories from our fellow coworkers. Just having that time outside of the office with our team when we don’t have to think about work is when we really get to let loose and create the best memories.
Do you have a Go Local nickname? Gwenie, Gwinnifer, Gwendolyn, Gwendarella, #Gwinning – really any word with Gwen stuck to the front of it.
Have you ever given a Go Local nickname? The Social Butterflies is the nickname I have given the social media team. I also began calling Steven Ervay – Little Stevie and Rachel (my boss) – Mom and of course there is Ashley- AshBear.
What is something that no one would know about you by looking at you? People are typically surprised that I grew up in a really small town because I am not outdoorsy and a total fashionista.
OK, pretend you have the day off. What would we find you doing? I would probably sleep in, wake up and get Dunkin Donuts iced coffee, then go to lunch with my boyfriend if he had the day off and probably go shopping and watch movies.
Do you have any vices? Coffee… and Dr. Pepper… and Ice Cream… and Pasta.
Describe yourself in 3 words. Caring, energetic and sassy
What do you enjoy about most about working with social media? What I enjoy the most is the client interaction and helping them meet their goals. Social media is ever changing and whenever there is something new released or a new platform you have to study up on it and stay ahead of the trends, it keeps me on my toes. It is also fun to write content that represents our clients’ brand.
If you were to give people one tip about social media what would it be? Create a unique mixture of content that contains both company information and more fun, engaging posts.
How has it been living with a fellow coworker (the lovely Ashley Freeland)? We are basically a married couple because we ride to work together and work and then go home together. She is definitely entertaining and there is never a dull moment. It is a lot of fun getting to spend a lot of time with her beyond work and she has for sure become one of my besties.
