My Life as a Go Local Intern

From the company leadership, down to the lowliest intern, Go Local is a company with a culture of growing together, working hard, and always doing each task to the best of our abilities.

What is it like to be an intern for Go Local? Honestly, it has been the most fun and amazing learning experience I have ever had the opportunity to be a part of.

As college students, we all fear that an internship will just be grabbing coffee, seeing what files need to be organized, and answering phones. Go Local, on the other hand, actually LET me do real work and expected me to do this work. My internship was focused in the social media department. My responsibilities included creating social media messaging, measuring and reporting the success of our social media ads at the beginning of each month, scheduling content into our scheduling program, and managing the Pinterest accounts for all of our social media clients. As I learned skills and mastered different tasks, I was given more responsibility. My team also let me try small projects from other departments that allowed me to figure out what I enjoy doing and what I don’t. It reinforced how much I enjoy social media and want to continue pursuing it. Helping in other departments also allowed me to meet more people at Go Local I might not normally work with.

Having an internship, while being a full time student in my final semester of University, had its ups and downs. I usually worked a total of 25 hours a week. I commuted to the office Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, for about six and a half hours. The other two days, I worked from home. Coming to the office was by far my favorite! It gave me the chance to be a part of a team, see the office culture, and experience things I would have missed otherwise.  Working in the office, I built relationships and really got to know what it would be like to work here. Even when senioritis kicked in HARD, these last few weeks, it was really wonderful having the social media team behind me. Reminding…sometimes pushing me towards the finish line!

The best part about Go Local, for me, is the people. From the company leadership, down to the lowliest intern, (me!) it is a company with a culture of growing together, working hard, and always doing each task to the best of our abilities. This is a well-rounded, fun loving team. It is a place to learn, grow and thrive.
